Remember Some Old Computer Game?

Every time I go to my parents’ house, I root through all the odds and ends I’ve left there. And this time I was fortunate enough to come across the best muthafuckin’ computer trivia game there ever was. That’s right, it’s You Don’t Know Jack. Remember how the game was kinda popular among computer nerds for about forty-five minutes a decade ago? Well, let me tell you, it deserved every bit of that almost, not-particularly-famous fame.

The way you know you’ve got a good quiz game on your hand is when the instructional booklet bears this warning: “This product contains mature content, including suggestive sexual references and language that may not be suitable for some children. Besides, they won’t get it, anyway.” Trivial Pursuit never has questions about wieners or sado-masochism. But this game does.

But it has so much more than wiener jokes, if you can believe it. It has belligerent hosts that make fun of you for missing questions. It assigns you an embarrassing name if you don’t enter yours fast enough. It asks you to figure out what phrase rhymes with a bunch of random gibberish. Every category name is a joke, every question is quirky and weird. It’s always been my favorite computer game of all time. Granted, the only other computer game I ever played was Number Munchers because first person shooters are too hard and the monsters in Diablo made me cry. But, still, it’s great.

And the fourth game in the series, You Don’t Know Jack: The Ride came with a super awesome CD full of fake commercials. Here’s the jingle featured in the commercial for a product called SPLAT: “SPreadable Lips, Anuses, and Teats! SPLAT! The omni-alterna-meat!” So, seriously, that’s awesome.

Anyway, what I’m saying here is that you should totally dig up this old game somewhere–any of the many editions, they were all great–and give it a play. I just played a game of You Don’t Know Jack: Movies and I was laughing so much I almost peed. I can’t think of a better endorsement than that.
