I apologize for the terrible pun in that title, but I’m too enraged to come up with something good. Dig it: My inability to watch anything with Superman in it continues unabated.

Before, when I rented Superman on two different occasions and couldn’t make the DVD play, it was at least slightly bearable. I have, after all, seen that movie a few times before. So I was crestfallen, sure, but I got through it. But then! Oh, but then!

I rented Superman Returns on my last trip to the video store, which I haven’t yet seen. I put it in and, lo and behold, it played! Hurrah! I was watching it and I was digging it. Superman was being super, Lex Luthor was throwing his hair at children, all was right with the world. Until suddenly, KABLAMMO!

About an hour into the movie, it starts stuttering and hiccoughing so bad that it’s unwatchable. I put forth every valiant effort to get the DVD to play, but no. Once again, the universe has conspired to keep me from ever again seeing anything with Superman in it.
